Will 2025 Surpass 2024 as the Hottest Year Ever?

2024 is the Hottest Year

The year 2024 shattered global temperature records, surpassing the 15ºC mark. This leaves many wondering if 2025 could be even hotter. While a definitive answer remains elusive, several factors suggest a potential for further temperature escalation.

The ongoing climate crisis, fueled by greenhouse emissions, continues to drive global warming. The El Niño weather pattern, known for its warming influence, is expected to persist into 2025, potentially exacerbating temperature increases.

Additionally, the depletion of the ozone layer and other human activities like the continued use of fossil fuels, botched carbon credit initiatives, and illegal mining contribute to rising temperatures. True to that, African climate activists are against the ongoing EACOP project, which is a projected danger agricultural activities, wildlife and people’s livelihoods.

However, predicting future temperatures with certainty is challenging. Natural climate variability, volcanic eruptions, and solar cycles can influence global temperatures. Scientists are closely monitoring these factors to assess the likelihood of 2025 surpassing 2024 as the hottest year on record.

Regardless of whether 2025 breaks records, one thing is certain: the world is facing a climate emergency. Urgent climate action is needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and safeguard the planet for future generations.
