The month of August is significant to women, inspiring those pushing for sustainable development in their respective fields. The fight for stable and green climate calls upon all women to help provide climate change and energy solutions.
Women provide an excellent opportunity to find untapped solutions despite equal lacking opportunities in the energy sector. According to the world bank, regions like North Africa have 35-50% female graduates. Most are employed, as they only account for 1-25% of the total labor force.
Considering the dangers caused by climate change, the inclusion of women in climate is only logical for everyone to be included in the strategic planning and decision-making.
The East African region is taking note of the changes, taking the concept of women and energy seriously. The region, especially Kenya, is facing extended spells of low and cold temperatures, a factor affecting the agricultural sector.
A great example is Rebecca Miano, CEO KenGen in Kenya. The entity is currently the leading producer of geothermal energy, making Miano the perfect role model for young Africans to admire. Africa is already suffering the wrath of global warming, despite being the lowest contributor to carbon emissions. Women in Climate like Miano are proving will go a long way in contributing significantly to the already worsening scenario in Africa.
