Britain’s Prince William has embarked on a four-day visit to South Africa, focusing on climate change and youth engagement. His trip is based on his start-up project, Earthshot Prize, which recognizes innovative solutions to climate-related and environmental challenges.
On his first day, the 42-year-old royal interacted with 120 young African and Asian environmental leaders. To pay tribute to SA’s rugby, he joined a rugby session at Ocean View Secondary School, sharing the field with former rugby legends like Jason Leonard and Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira.
On Wednesday, he awarded winners; each went home with 1 million pounds. They were:
- Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative
- Keep IT Cool (Kenyan Organization)
- High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People
- Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems
- GAYO, Green Africa Youth Organization (Uganda and Ghana)
During his visit, Prince William participated in a global wildlife summit and met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. His focus on environmental issues and youth empowerment underscores the urgent need for global collaboration to address climate change and protect our planet.
Fun fact: The Earthshot project, as introduced in 2020, was inspired by President J. F. Kennedy’s “moonshot” project.
