African Development Bank at 60 Celebrations

The African Development Bank (AFDB) celebrated its 60th anniversary in majestic way, held in Cote D’Ivoire. The country’s president was in attendance, and didn’t hide his excitement, especially due to milestones reached by the AFDB organization. 

“This is an historic milestone and a cause for celebration, but it is also an opportunity to see that the African Development Bank has financed some pivotal infrastructure and helped improve the living conditions of millions of Africans. The Bank is a source of pride and hope for Africa,” President Ouattara said.

True to that, millions around the continent have benefitted from the bank’s effort access and distribute climate funding. Beneficiaries include women and marginalized groups, with AFDB aiming to create a sustainable environment, economy, for everyone. 

AFDB’s head Akinumwi Adesina marked the anniversary as a day of joy, and also echoed various achievements since the organization’s inception in Abidjan in 1964. 

In total, the bank has financed over 6,500 projects, with last decade accounting for more than 3,000 projects. Additionally, AFDB has managed to invest $77 million dollars in the mentioned 3,000 projects. 

Adesina thanked climate change activists and negotiators who helped attain certain goals. He specifically thanked Cote D’Ivoire’s president for his efforts in helping the bank acquire a $115 billion of general capital. 

“This celebration is a call to action to build the Africa we want to see. May the African Development Bank keep scoring development goals for Africa”. Adesina concluded his speech.
