2024 saw major development in the renewable energy sector, and 2025 ladies and gentlemen, is going to be another plus for Africa. The past COP28 UAE and COP29 Azerbaijan were a significant milestone for the energy sector, seeing the involvement of major investors, and partnerships.
It’s all rounded development, with confirmed deals also involving, hydropower, oil production, regional grid integration, and sustainability-focused initiatives.
Algeria’s Tafouk 1 Solar Project, costing $3.6 billion is a great example of the new era in the African energy sector. This large-scale energy is set to deliver 4GW of renewable energy capacity.
According to Dr. Amine Zeroual, an energy policy professional, “Algeria’s solar investments mark a turning point in North Africa’s energy transition.”
South Africa accounts for energy developments, following another dark year for Eskom and its citizens. In recent months, however, the country has had bids in renewable energy investments, which involved Japanese investors interested in the country’s Hive hydrogen.
Also, the Amapiano country got a major boost through the $220 million to Clean Energy Projects funding; this was by European Investment and Southern African Development Banks.
Additionally, the recent African Investment Forum in Morocco, Rabat, included more energy-related deals, whose execution will commence in 2025. Therefore, the new year is the period for Africa to execute and launch clean sustainable energy projects and safeguard a sustainable future for its young generations.
