The African Development bank, AFDB, will be commemorating their 60th anniversary between the 9th and 20th of September, in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire. The theme of the event will be “60 Years of Making a Difference.”
True to that, the AFDB has made milestones in advocating for climate mitigation, especially through fighting for equitable climate finance. It has so far excelled in helping countries struggling under the climate crisis through grants and calling for investments in certain sectors like renewable energy. A current project example includes Cameroonian, National Agricultural Research and Extension Programme.
The AFDB has managed to support countries after deadly calamities like Malawi after Cyclone Freddy, or South Sudan during the long-time drought and famine.
The president Akinumwi Adesina has been at the forefront to oversee projects and call for more climate funds. He was vocal during the COP28 summit, UAE, and will be looking to push the African Climate in the upcoming COP29 Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
As AFDB celebrates its 60th anniversary, the African Climate Council will continue giving you updates on the bank’s activities, and push for the African Climate goal.
