Kenyan Tourists to Pay 20 For One Tree Planted

Are you looking to visit Kenya soon as a tourist? You have an opportunity to plant a tree for a small fee of 20ksh or $0.15, and help stop global warming. This is according to Dr. Alfred Mutua, Minister for Wildlife and Tourism, during a May 9th meeting with an Australian Tourism company.

The initiative will boost President Dr. William Ruto’s efforts in rehabilitating Kenyan forests and achieving net-zero emissions. Through the Minister, the government attests to its long-term plan to improve Kenya’s forest cover and assures the upcoming project to be a life changer.

Dr. Alfred Mutua assured security of the respective trees planted, giving a chance for the tourists to come back and monitor its progress. Therefore, this is also a smart idea to boost Kenya’s tourism sector, as the government expounds on how to increase its revenue.

Additionally, the initiative will promote healthy practices between locals and tourists. It also comes at a time when the UN plans to move its headquarters to Nairobi, and is already proving a suitable switch for the Nairobi and Kenyan economy.

Only time will tell how the project can grow. Nonetheless, the East African country is prioritizing climate mitigation actions, and this upcoming project is one to look out for. More African countries should do the same to take a step closer to African climate goals
